Having taught third graders for decades, Gaye knows

how  to be playful.  Her choice of river rocks for her

canvases  proves the point.  She usually lets the rocks

decide what animals they would like to become, declaring

that, “You can’t argue with a rock!”

Her fascination with rocks goes one step further.

Another of her loves is paleontology.  She volunteers at the

George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden repairing and

repainting the exhibits there, earning the nickname of

“Dino Doc.”  When there are no “patients” to look after, she

works in the fossil lab there or at the Utah Museum of

Natural History on the University of Utah campus preparing

fossils for scientists to study.  Once or twice a year she’ll

be found out in the field with paleontologists helping with

a dinosaur “dig.”
